I can't eat potatoes, too many carbs??

March 3, 2018

Do you want to lose body fat mass?  Most likely yes.  Here is a super positive message on how to go about that with a little less pain and suffering.

We all hear the statements regarding losing weight, “just eat less”.   Then often along the way we encounter much hunger and deprivation.  These then become huge barriers to long term success.  But we are here to say you can and should eat more.  It is not about eating less, it is about increasing the volume of food you eat by simply shifting to lower calorie density options.  Here is a great example:  we often hear about how bad baked potatoes (carbs) are for our waistline.   We have a current client that is consuming potatoes everyday and losing body fat mass every week.  Why is this?  Potato consumption has decreased over the past 20 years.  What Americans are eating more of is processed potatoes.  Baked potatoes are about 20 calories per ounce, while french fries jump up to 100 calories per ounce, and potatoes chips go up to 150 calories per ounce.  This isn’t about never eating potatoes, it is about reducing the calories per bite, and reducing the total calories by consuming more good for you foods that have a lower calorie density.

You can be full, and satisfied while losing body fat.  You can eat more and lose body fat mass along the way.  So, good news for all of us trying to get leaner.  Remember if your doctor gave you a prescription for antibiotics to crush down your pneumonia, I’m willing to bet you would follow his orders to the letter of the law.  This is really no different.  The prescription for optimal health is eat more fruits and veggies.  The minimum prescription is 5 serving per day.  This means you can also eat more that five.  Try a push day 2x per week; eat 7 servings per day.  Watch what happens.  I am 100% certain there will be no adverse side effect of this prescription.
