Cient Spotlight: Julie and Kristy

"Winter is coming!" I knew if I didn't shed a few pounds I would never be able to wear long johns under my work jeans. Envisioning future months of frozen misery was my prime motivation to start eating healthier and lose some weight. About this same time my daughter, Kristy, mentioned she saw the HIT Strength sign and was interested in checking them out. I tagged along for the Free Introductory Workout and in that half hour, I knew this type of training was something that I needed. I was tired of being tired, out of shape, and having to hold my breathe to tie my shoes. I was ready to get to work!

The combination of a healthy diet and HIT Strength training twice a week has been a successful strategy. I have lost 50 pounds and have increased strength. What I appreciate the most, however, is that a lot of my knee and foot pain is gone. In the beginning, modifications were necessary on The Pillar because I just could not bend enough without discomfort. Erika was very patient and together we just kept working at it. Eventually, I was able to do The Pillar with no modification and have even been able to remove weight. The personal training aspect at HIT Strength is integral to my progress. I feel like it's a team effort and sometimes I need the extra push that our trainer, Erika provides.

I have successfully lost weight in the past but was never so inspired to try to add more muscle and increase strength. It helps a lot having great teammates like Kristy, Erika, and everyone else at HIT Strength. The supportive atmosphere provides great motivation and even makes training fun. For me, this journey is just getting started!

I played sports and stayed moderately active in high school and college. After leaving college and starting my career, I spent a few seasons on softball and beach volleyball teams, still walked a lot and would do all sorts of activities such as walks, hikes, kayaking, kickball, canoeing, etc. But with each passing year, I would run a little slower, be able to move less of the furniture around the house and gain a few more pounds. While I felt I was still active, it just wasn’t enough. I finally stopped making excuses and started looking for a personal trainer. I knew from previous attempts that getting a gym membership or signing up for a spin or yoga class wasn’t going to work. I needed something that I knew would keep me accountable.

I found Hit Strength and knew it was exactly what I was looking for. After telling my mom about it, we decided to try the introduction session together and have now been clients since late September. The scheduled training sessions make me accountable. The sessions are only 30 minutes, two times a week, so no matter what I have going on that week I know I can find a time to go. I’ve gotten to meet some of the clients that are at the gym around the usual time that my mother and I go, and they are always friendly and encouraging. The trainers are all amazing. We’ve had sessions with almost all of them at some point and they are always friendly, positive and motivating. Our regular trainer, Erika, always seems to know when I’m nearing the last of my reps so she can push me to do those few extra that I may not have attempted if she wasn’t watching me.

Today, I get to look back and know that I run a little faster than last year, move more of the furniture around the house and lost a few pounds. Strength training has been a great habit that I’ve introduced into my schedule that helps me to improve and move in a more positive direction.
